Key Responsibilities
Provide individual and group counseling using evidence-based practices tailored to a diverse student population.Address academic, social, emotional, and behavioral concerns through direct support and intervention.Develop and implement a comprehensive counseling program aligned with ASCA (American School Counselor Association) standards.Identify and respond to student needs by coordinating support systems and targeted interventions in collaboration with teachers, administrators, and families.Monitor student performance indicators (attendance, behavior, academic progress) and provide early interventions for at-risk students.Teach the Second Step SEL curriculum across all elementary grade levels.Maintain accurate, confidential documentation using student information systems and digital counseling platforms.Manage daily and long-term responsibilities, calendars, and priorities within a fast-paced and dynamic school environment.Coordinate and lead meetings for the Sagemont Prep Student Support Team (SST) to discuss student progress, concerns, and action plans.Facilitate the ADA process for students with diagnosed needs and ensure appropriate accommodations and services are in place.Coordinate the standardized testing program for Grades 3 through 5 with the academic team.Lead new student orientation programs and maintain regular check-ins to ensure successful transitions.Collaborate with the Upper Campus Counselor to support vertical alignment and transitions for rising sixth-grade students.Organize and facilitate student focus groups, peer connection circles, and wellness initiatives.Oversee grade-level community service projects aligned with Sagemont Prep values.Conduct parent workshops and student life skills sessions on topics such as resilience, digital citizenship, time management, and emotional regulation.Actively participate in staff meetings, school events, and ongoing professional development to stay informed of best practices in school counseling.
Qualifications and Requirements
Master’s Degree or higher in School Counseling, Guidance, Counselor Education, or a related field from an accredited institutionFlorida Educator’s Certificate in School Counseling (Grades PK–12)Experience in a counseling role within an elementary school setting is preferred.Strong organizational and task-management skills with the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.Proficiency with technology tools for scheduling, record-keeping, and communication, including experience with student data systems.Exceptional interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.Comfort and professionalism when addressing sensitive topics with students and families.Strong collaboration skills and the ability to work across departments and with external agencies.Familiarity with mental health trends, trauma-informed practices, and culturally responsive counseling.

As part of our commitment to student well-being, we implement the Second Step Curriculum across all grade levels to teach essential life skills such as emotional regulation, empathy, and problem-solving. Social-emotional learning is reinforced through proactive guidance lessons, embedded classroom practices, and wellness initiatives.
To ensure holistic support for each learner, we conduct regular Student Support Team (SST) meetings, where counselors collaborate with faculty and leadership to review student progress, recommend interventions, and evaluate the effectiveness of support strategies. The counselor also plays an important role in reviewing and updating student accommodations, ensuring compliance with documented needs, and occasionally participating in admissions file reviews to assess readiness and inform planning.
